Welcoming our 2026/27 school year intern

AWTCC has a new intern! Sydney will help us build an overview guide on countries around the world and which U.S. exports matter to them. Exports bring in billions of dollars in revenue to thousands of U.S. companies and create millions of U.S. jobs, so Sydney’s project will help U.S. exporters identify markets that may be open to their products. We asked our new intern, Sydney Montevirgen, what brought her to AWTCC.:

My name is Sydney Montevirgen, and I am a senior at Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro, New Jersey, where I am a Financial Technology major. As part of Bergen Tech’s Work-Based Learning Program, I have the opportunity to spend one day each week interning in a professional environment and gaining firsthand experience beyond the classroom.

My background in Financial Technology has given me a strong foundation in economics, finance, and understanding how businesses and markets operate. At the same time, I have developed a growing interest in International Relations and Global Business, particularly in the ways that trade and economic relationships connect countries, businesses, and communities. I plan to continue exploring these fields as I enter college next fall.

When searching for an internship, I wanted to find an organization where I could bring together my knowledge in finance and business, and tie it together with my interest in international affairs in a meaningful way that could develop core skills for my future. That search led me to the American World Trade Chamber of Commerce in Ridgewood.

I was drawn to AWTCC’s role in connecting businesses and organizations across borders. Through its work with exporters, freight forwarders, and chambers of commerce, AWTCC provides a unique perspective on the relationships that drive international trade and economic growth.

I am excited to be part of the AWTCC team this year and to learn from the organization’s work firsthand. I look forward to contributing my perspective as a student while gaining a deeper understanding of international trade, business development, and the global economy.
