Member Benefit Spotlight – Global Trade Jobs
The American World Trade Chamber of Commerce (AWTCC) is happy to collaborate with Global Trade Jobs to help international trade businesses find and recruit new talent. Recruiting seems more challenging in the United States in general, but the challenges may be even more significant in the global trade arena. Today, we sit down with Dusty Ackerman, the founder and CEO of Global Trade Jobs, to discuss how to tackle this challenge and the benefits AWTCC members can take advantage of!
Global Trade Jobs is a proud partner of AWTCC. Members of AWTCC can take advantage of discounts on job postings. To find more about membership contact us at register@awtcc.org
According to Harvard Business Review, supply chain jobs are in a ‘staffing crisis.’ This labor shortage is impacting all aspects of the supply chain from customs brokers to order fulfilment and everything in between.
MHI recently reported the greatest challenge facing 57% of their 2,000 supply chain executives was hiring and retaining qualified workers. Simultaneously, the average age of a customs broker has been trending upwards for years as fewer young people seem to step into the area.
Long gone are the local jobs postings and larger job boards tend to quickly be overrun with illegitimate postings which can discourage users. The solution has been industry specific and curated jobs boards to keep skilled workers engaged. Global Trade Jobs has created that solution for the international shipping industry.
Feedback from the expert
“Skillsets are one area businesses do not seem willing to compromise,” Dusty suggests. “When you are looking at compliance regulations and especially items like ITAR, EAR, and OFAC the cost of getting it wrong is just too high. Even with a shortage, businesses cannot compromise skills required.”
“Ultimately, employers may need to evaluate training plans and options to fill gaps,” Dusty continued. “In the hiring market. Decisions will need to be made on what really matters. Familiarity with specific industry software used by the business may not be as important as the underlying skillset. It’s much more reliable to train someone on SAP than proper security checks and compliance requirements.”
As noted, chamber members can take advantage of discounts on job postings as well as many other features.
